Cavities are probably one of the most extreme forms of bad dental health that occur to most people. Some people get them quite frequently and need to come to us multiple times in order to get them filled.
Other people may only experience them on occasion. While some cavities start out small and tend not to be noticed (until you run your tongue over them), others can end up causing a lot of pain. This does mean you should come to us as soon as possible, but what about the intervening time between? Managing Your Pain Until You See UsWe would first of all advise people to try and make an appointment as soon as possible. There is of course going to be a bit of waiting time, so until then you will want to ensure that your cavities don't cause too much pain. One of the most common ways of fighting pain tends to be taking over the counter medication. You could consider this to be more of a placeholder than anything else. Paracetamol and ibuprofen can both work very well for some people, however it does depend on the person's tolerance. Aspirin can also be an effective way of at least dulling the pain until you visit us. It is always best to try and avoid stronger medication, however, sometimes the pain is so severe that stronger medication may be the best way to blot it out completely. Numbing gels can also help to relieve aches. You can rub them around the area of the cavity. None of these, however, are quick fixes to a long term problem. If you have any kind of cavity in your teeth, make sure that you come to us as soon as you can! If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please call us at (206) 623-7783 today. |
